14歳でエレキベースを独学で始め、高校卒業後、甲陽音楽学院に入学。
19歳でコントラバスを始める。ジャズベースを上山崎初美氏に師事。
在学中にバークリー音楽大学奨学金オーディションに合格。
1998年バークリー音楽大学に入学。ジャズベースをBarry Smith、Whit Brown、Paul Del Nero、Dave Hollenderの各氏に師事。2001年にはElvin Jones Awardを受賞する。
在学中より多数のジャズクラブに出演し、2002年に卒業後もボストンを拠点に演奏活動を行う。
2003年に帰国。活動の拠点を東京に移す。
2011年4月桐朋学園大学音楽学部ディプロマコースに入学。コントラバスを市川雅典氏に師事。2014年3月同校卒業。
2015年よりコントラバスとギターのデュオユニット、DUOSUKEを結成する。2016年2月18日にファーストアルバムAcoustic Sessionをリリース。
2016年12月に開催された第36回浅草ジャズコンテストバンド部門にて金賞並びにソリスト賞を受賞。
2019年にYusuke Ishihara Trioを結成。ストレートアヘッドとコンテンポラリージャズを融合させたオリジナル楽曲と、多様な要素をクロスオーバーさせたピアノトリオ。2021年3月にYusuke Ishihara Trio ファーストアルバムDig Into Jazzをリリース。新宿PIT INNを中心にライブ活動中。
2022年より東京文化会館主催のミュージック・ワークショップコンサート(ミュージカルコンサート)に定期的に出演。
ジャズ、クラシック、ミュージカルなど、あらゆるジャンルで必要なピチカート奏法、Arco奏法（弓奏法）、エレキベースをハイレベルで演奏可能なベーシストである。

Yusuke Ishihara – Jazz & Classical Bassist
Yusuke Ishihara began teaching himself electric bass at the age of 14. After graduating from high school, he entered Koyo Conservatory of Music, where he started playing double bass at the age of 19. He studied jazz bass under Hatsumi Ueyamazaki.
While still in school, he passed the Berklee College of Music scholarship audition and enrolled at Berklee in 1998. There, he studied jazz bass under Barry Smith, Whit Browne, Paul Del Nero, and Dave Hollender. In 2001, he was honored with the Elvin Jones Award.
During his time at Berklee, he performed at numerous jazz clubs, and after graduating in 2002, he continued his professional activities based in Boston.
He returned to Japan in 2003 and moved his base of operations to Tokyo.
In April 2011, he entered the diploma program at Toho Gakuen School of Music, studying double bass under Masanori Ichikawa. He graduated in March 2014.
In 2015, he formed a duo unit with guitar called DUOSUKE, releasing their first album Acoustic Sessionon February 18, 2016.
In December 2016, he won both the Gold Prize and the Soloist Award in the band division of the 36th Asakusa Jazz Contest.
In 2019, he formed the Yusuke Ishihara Trio, a piano trio that blends straight-ahead and contemporary jazz, featuring original compositions that cross multiple genres. Their first album, Dig Into Jazz, was released in March 2021. The trio actively performs, primarily at Shinjuku PIT INN.
Since 2022, he has been a regular performer in the Music Workshop Concerts (musical concerts) organized by Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.
Yusuke Ishihara is a highly skilled bassist, proficient in pizzicato, arco (bowing), and electric bass across genres such as jazz, classical, and musical theatre.
