14歳でエレキベースを独学で始め、高校卒業後、甲陽音楽学院に入学。
19歳でコントラバスを始める。ジャズベースを上山崎初美氏に師事。
在学中にバークリー音楽大学奨学金オーディションに合格。
1998年バークリー音楽大学に入学。ジャズベースをBarry Smith、Whit Brown、Paul Del Nero、Dave Hollenderの各氏に師事。2001年にはElvin Jones Awardを受賞する。
在学中より多数のジャズクラブに出演し、2002年に卒業後もボストンを拠点に演奏活動を行う。
2003年に帰国。活動の拠点を東京に移す。
2011年4月桐朋学園大学音楽学部ディプロマコースに入学。コントラバスを市川雅典氏に師事。2014年3月同校卒業。
2015年よりコントラバスとギターのデュオユニット、DUOSUKEを結成する。2016年2月18日にファーストアルバムAcoustic Sessionをリリース。
2016年12月に開催された第36回浅草ジャズコンテストバンド部門にて金賞並びにソリスト賞を受賞。
2019年にYusuke Ishihara Trioを結成。ストレートアヘッドとコンテンポラリージャズを融合させたオリジナル楽曲と、多様な要素をクロスオーバーさせたピアノトリオ。2021年3月にYusuke Ishihara Trio ファーストアルバムDig Into Jazzをリリース。新宿PIT INNを中心にライブ活動中。
2022年より東京文化会館主催のミュージック・ワークショップコンサート(ミュージカルコンサート)に定期的に出演。
ジャズ、クラシック、ミュージカルなど、あらゆるジャンルで必要なピチカート奏法、Arco奏法（弓奏法）、エレキベースをハイレベルで演奏可能なベーシストである。

Yusuke Ishihara started playing electric bass at the age of 14, and after graduating from high school he entered Koyo Conservatory where studied double bass with Hatsumi Kamiyamasaki.
In 1998, entered Berklee College of Music as a scholar ship student and studied jazz bass with Barry Smith, Whit Brown, Paul Del Nero, Dave Hollender.
In 2001, he received the Elvin Jones Award.
He appeared in numerous jazz clubs while studying abroad, and after graduating in 2002, he plays performances as a professional bassist based in Boston.
Returned to Japan in 2003. Transfer the activity base to Tokyo.
In 2011, studying Classic music, he entered Toho Gakuen school music studied with Masanori Ishikawa and received Diploma in March 2014.
He formed duo unit, DUOSUKE of double bass and guitar. The first album Acoustic Session was released on February 2016.
He received Gold medal at the 36th Asakusa Jazz competition Band Section held in December 2016 , as well as the Soloist Award.
Yusuke is good at Arco style (bow playing style) and good at playing with elements of classical in jazz.
Since 2019, he has formed Yusuke Ishihara Trio and is active mainly on original songs. Yusuke Ishihara Trio's first album "Dig Into Jazz" was released in March 2021.
